Among airlines worldwide, the pursuit of offering first-class passengers unparalleled prestige and service is a common goal. However, it is only Lufthansa that truly embodies dedication and exclusivity for their esteemed first-class clientele.
I partner with Brady Yu, the co-founder of TripPlus, to embark on a 5-week journey to savor five unparalleled first-class experiences featured on “Brady’s Choice”. It showcases the pinnacle of luxury travel with the finest First-Class Airlines.
This week, we decode the first-class experience with Lufthansa, a coveted gem for connoisseurs of luxury travel points.
The Award For Lufthansa First Class Was A Rare Gem.
In the realm of luxurious air travel, Lufthansa merely releases first-class award seats for Star Alliance partner members within the two-week window before departure.
This exclusive opportunity requires me a blend of time and itinerary flexibility, ensuring a chance to indulge in the opulence of Lufthansa’s first-class cabins through mileage redemption.
The Terminal Access Was Exclusive.
The eligibility criteria for accessing Lufthansa‘s first-class terminal were notably stringent.
To qualify, I either boarded a Lufthansa-operated first-class flight departing from Frankfurt or arrived on a Lufthansa-operated first-class flight at Frankfurt on the same day and continued the journey with a Lufthansa connecting flight to another destination.
Alternatively, I needed attain the highest-tier membership within the Lufthansa Group, known as “Hon Circle.” If I traveled in first-class with other airlines, the exclusive first-class terminal would remain beyond reach.
It was crucial to note that when redeeming tickets for a Lufthansa experience, flying into Frankfurt Airport (FRA) was paramount. This ensured an immersive experience with Lufthansa’s renowned First Class Terminal at its main hub.
If flying into Lufthansa’s secondary hub, Munich Airport (MUC), it meant a different scenario. Not only was the First Class Private Terminal absent, but I also missed out on Lufthansa’s distinguished chauffeur service for connecting flights.
So, planning carefully added an extra layer of sophistication to the discerning first-class traveler’s experience.
Lufthansa Cultivated Elegance And Class Over Time.
Lufthansa’s first-class terminal exuded an air of timeless elegance, despite bearing signs of frequent use. I was impressed with every single detail Lufthansa meticulously attended to, from the impeccable alignment of sofas and chairs to the symmetrical presentation of table napkins, and even the less frequented areas that were were thoroughly cleaned.
Lufthansa cultivated elegance and refinement over time. From what I observed the crucial factors lied in attention to detail, the extent of self-discipline, and the ability to make first-class passengers feel as comfortable as in their everyday lives.
The Food And The Presentation Were Flawless.
I found solace in the dining area, curated by “Do & Co” with playful care. From the classic Viennese Schnitzel to the Superfood Bowl and the whimsical inclusion of Thai-style Koy Soy and Coconut Chicken Tom Ka Gai, each dish invited travelers on a culinary adventure.
I was lucky enough to visit in late spring which was the season of white asparagus. Its delicate flavor paired with a dollop of butter and complemented by a glass of Chablis, transformed lunch into a whimsical feast.
Any critique? Perhaps the stems of the asparagus were slightly robust. But overall, the presentation was flawless, ensuring a truly enchanting dining experience in the lounge.
Lufthansa Proudly Presented The Best Of “Queen Of The Skies”.
For the generation born in the 1980s, the majestic presence of the “Boeing 747,” affectionately known as the Queen of the Skies, left an indelible mark as their very first impression of airplanes. However, as the reliability of twin-engine aircraft continued to soar and with a more direct consideration of fuel costs, the Boeing 747 gradually faded from the market. Today, only a handful of airlines continue to operate its enhanced version, the “Boeing 747-8i,” with Lufthansa proudly counted among them.
In the tranquil sanctuary of Lufthansa’s first-class experience, the hardware was not boast the latest bells and whistles. Yet, I believed what set Lufthansa apart lied in its attention to the finer points, ingrained deep within its DNA.
From the moment I received their distinctively crafted boarding passes to the thoughtful packaging of their luggage and the personalized escort service, it was clear that Lufthansa meticulously considered every aspect of my journey. They carefully contemplated each detail, ensured to exceed the first-class passenger’s expectations at every turn.
As we boarded the aircraft, the Lufthansa team’s demeanor struck a chord – friendly, impeccably professional, and genuinely passionate about their work. It was refreshing, a departure from the formalities often encountered. Some airlines provided a service with a detached air, while others, like the exceptional team on this Lufthansa flight, engaged in knowledgeable conversations with me that exceeded expectations. Their profound understanding of Mosel’s Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) was a delightful surprise, adding a touch of sophistication to my journey.
The Simple Scrambled Eggs Were “Homely” Perfect.
I opted for a light start – a simple caviar appetizer and a petite vegetable sofa, leading to the main course, the Steak Oscar. The Steak Oscar was impeccably heated, with a well-sealed crust preserving the succulent juices – arguably the best steak I’ve had in-flight, at least until experiencing Starlux Airlines first class.
The nature of Western classic cuisine was satisfying and predictable. But it was lack of extravagance, especially when compared to those next door (Air France).
However, Lufthansa’s attention to detail shone through.
Why? Who didn’t experience the disappointment of reheated scrambled eggs? Lufthansa, however, brought out the whole box of eggs and an entire griddle to cook them fresh.
They understood that perfection in simple, homely dishes (especially onboard) was no easy task. They simply wanted my in-flight scrambled eggs to taste just like those made at home – a testament to Lufthansa’s indulgent and nurturing approach.
How To Redeem For Lufthansa First Class Award Tickets
To access Lufthansa’s first-class cabin, you can use their own mileage program called “Miles & More.” As mentioned earlier, the airline releases first class award tickets to Star Alliance Partners at the last minute.
For instance, on my itinerary from Chicago to Frankfurt: A one-way ticket from Chicago to Frankfurt requires 100,000 Aeroplan miles, which can be redeemed on Air Canada. Another option is to redeem 121,000 miles through United Airlines.
Chase partners with Air Canada and United Airlines, offering the following credit cards that allow you to accumulate their miles.

Chase United℠ Explorer Credit Card (Please Click)
United℠ Quest Credit Card (Please Click)

Summary
The six secrets solidified Lufthansa’s status as a pioneer in the realm of first-class travel. From the exclusive private terminal to the elusive nature of award tickets, each element added a layer of allure and prestige and set a high bar for aspiring travelers seeking the ultimate luxury experience.
