How To Make Award Travel Easier By Using Tool – Roame

Photo Credit: Maria Fung – Roame now is able to search Japan Airlines First Class award space

Award travel can feel like a full-time job—especially when you’re trying to find multiple business class seats during school breaks. If you’ve ever juggled airline websites, guessed your way through award calendars, or sat refreshing your screen for days—same here.

That’s where Roame.Travel comes in for the families who are losing their minds and feeling overwhelmed with points, airlines, frequent flyer programs, and award space. This post is a walk-through of the features that absolutely ease the anxiety during the award search with Roame, especially for the families.

What is Roame?

It’s an award search tool that pulls available award flights from over 20 frequent flyer programs. It functions like Google Flights but for credit card points and airline miles. Instead of logging into five and even ten different airline websites, Roame acts as a single flight search engine that delivers real-time search results across multiple airline loyalty programs. For families looking to fly together on points, that’s a game-changer.

Why Roame Is a Game-Changer for Families

When I’m planning a trip, I’m not just looking for one seat. I’m booking for a family of four. That means I need available award flights—ideally in business class or first class—on the same route, on the same departure date, and with minimal stops. That’s no easy feat.

Roame helps by searching more than 200 airlines across 20 more different airline programs, including major alliances like Star Alliance, Oneworld, and SkyTeam. It pulls in award availability from specific programs like Alaska Mileage Program, Air Canada Aeroplan, American Airlines AAdvantage, British Airways Executive Club, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Cathay Pacific and recently, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and Qatar Airways Privilege Club. This makes Roame a great place to start when your travel dates are fixed, your number of travelers is high, and you need the premium cabin class options from 200 more airlines.

How about EVA Air?

Roame does support EVA Air flights—but only when they’re bookable through partner programs like Aeroplan. What it doesn’t support is EVA’s own loyalty program, EVA Infinity MileageLands. So if you’re specifically trying to use EVA’s program, you’ll need to either search or reach out to EVA directly. Still, for most people booking EVA via Star Alliance programs, those flights will show up just fine through Roame’s search.

Real-Time Award Search

Roame’s free tool shows live searches for award space across a range of ±3 days. What you need is to create an account with Roame to start searching.

The award search tool saves you from logging into each of your frequent flyer account and from guessing which specific airline or specific date has seats available. For families that value direct routes or prefer certain aircraft types, you can even filter your award search results accordingly. (See the “Filters” below”)

The free version of Roame includes access to:

  • Unlimited live searches
  • Economy, business class, and first class award space
  • Filters by cabin class, number of stops, airline, and more
  • SkyView Lite: 7-day search window for flights departing within 60 days
  • Roame Wallet: Track your credit cards and loyalty points
  • SkyView Lite (more on this below)

What You Get with a Paid Membership

For advanced users or families who book award travel more than once a year, Roame’s paid subscription tier—called Friends of Roame—unlocks additional features. With a paid membership, you can:

  • Search up to 365 days out
  • Access to 5 multi-region super alerts covering multiple airports and entire regions
  • Set them up across 60 days and up to a year in advance
  • Use SkyView Pro to view a 60-day window of award availability
  • Search by geographic regions, not just airport pairs

This paid version is ideal for those who plan early, want more flexible date range options, or need to watch multiple routes. I often use it to compare different airline loyalty programs when trying to book award flights to Asia from the North America. With just a few clicks, I can compare award availability across Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, and Singapore Airlines—without jumping between airline websites.

What Is SkyView and Why It’s a Big Deal

SkyView is Roame’s proprietary award search engine feature that lets you search broader travel windows and more general routes. Instead of typing a specific route like Los Angeles (LAX) to Tokyo HND on July 1, you can search “anywhere in California to anywhere in Asia in July or August” and get results.

There are two versions:

  • SkyView Lite (free): search up to 7 days, flights within the next 60 days
  • SkyView Pro (paid): search up to 60 days, flights up to 365 days in advance

For families with set school breaks, SkyView makes it much easier to find a great deal without being tied to one specific airline or airport. You can explore multiple date ranges and arrival airports at once.

SkyView makes it easier to see more options when you’re searching for award flights—especially across a bunch of dates or nearby cities. It’s a great way to get the big picture fast.

But here’s something important to know:
SkyView shows “cached” results. That means the flights you see are based on searches done earlier by other people—not in real-time. Some of those results might be up to four days old.

So if you see a flight you like, it’s a good idea to double-check it on the airline’s site or through the loyalty program directly. Sometimes the flight is still there… and sometimes it’s already gone.

Still, it’s a helpful tool to get started—especially for busy parents who just want to save time.

Photo Credit: Roame – SkyView is quite useful when searching for award flights for a broader geographical region, one limitation is the search results are “cached,” which means they might not reflect real-time award availability or pricing.

Filters That Actually Help Families

Photo Credit: Maria Fung – “All Filters”  there are 9 criteria to filter based on your needs.

Roame’s filters are some of the best tools I’ve seen in an award search engine. You can:

Filter By Programs

It lists all frequent flyer programs, like Air Canada Aeroplan, Avios, including some that aren’t common in North America and are more specific to certain countries or regions. You can exclude the ones you don’t use, which helps you get even more laser-focused results.

Filter By Cards

It covers a wide range of card systems—from the most common like Amex, Chase, and Citi to more unique ones like Ramp Rewards, Marriott and even Wells Fargo. For example, if you’re eyeing an ANA flight on this route, you can use points from Amex, Chase, or Bilt by transferring to Aeroplan, which shows up as an option in the results.

Filter By Premium (Cabin Type)

For example, you want to fly lie-flat with the family—so filter this and target 100% premium cabins (Business and/or First Class only). The results will automatically filter out any mixed-cabin itineraries. You can slide the percentage bar to control how much of your itinerary includes premium cabins.

Filter By Stops

This is where you decide how many connections you’re willing to accept in your search. In the example, the filter was set to “No Limit,” and look what came up with 3 Stops: Haneda to Shanghai (PVG), then PVG to Beijing (PEK), then PEK to Hong Kong (HKG).It is a good reminder to always double -check your filters, especially you travel as a family.

This takes out a lot of guesswork. As someone juggling credit card offers, elite status tracking, and multiple airline programs, it feels like Roame was designed for people like us.

Award Alerts = Less Refreshing

Roame lets you set award alerts so you’re notified when award seats open up on your preferred route or program. Free users can save one alert. The Friends of Roame tier lets you save up to five alerts that keep running until you turn them off. That alert feature has saved me more than once—especially when watching for Singapore Airlines Suites, Japan Airlines First Class or Cathay Pacific business class redemptions.

Track Credit Cards and Points with Wallet

Roame also includes a Wallet feature that helps you keep track of your credit card portfolio. You can enter details like:

  • When you opened each card
  • Whether you’ve earned the welcome bonus
  • How many points you’ve earned
  • Whether a card contributes to Chase’s 5/24 rule

If you’re managing cards across multiple household members or trying to stay organized for future credit card offers, Wallet is one of those useful tools that quietly keeps everything in check.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a family planning international travel using credit card points or airline miles, Roame is one of the best ways I’ve found to take the stress out of searching. It brings together the best value options across different airline loyalty programs, helps you uncover the lowest price seats, and works whether you’re flying out of the United States, Canada, or beyond.

Whether you use the free account or upgrade to the pro version, Roame simplifies a process that often feels way too complicated. And honestly? That’s what makes it such a great tool for families like ours.

Because at the end of the day, I don’t just want to find a good deal. I want to book award flights that turn into great memories—without needing to become an expert flyer just to make it happen.
